Why do I have to type everything in?
Because the alternative is giving a third party read access to your bank account. Bank aggregation means your transaction history flows through someone else's servers, and that's the exact thing CroSum exists to avoid. Manual entry takes about thirty seconds a day, and it has a side effect people report liking: you notice what you're spending, because you had to write it down. If you'd rather have the bank connection, we've written honest comparisons with YNAB, Dyme and Spendle.
If it's all on my phone, do I lose everything when I lose the phone?
Not if you back up. Manual backup, restore and CSV export are free for everyone — your data in a plain file you control. Premium adds automatic sync — to your own Google Drive on Android, or your own iCloud on iPhone — so you don't have to remember. If you never back up at all then yes, the data lives only on that device; that's the trade-off of not having our server hold a copy.
How do I know you're not quietly collecting data anyway?
Don't take our word for it. The Play listing shows every permission. The app works fully in airplane mode, which tells you what it needs the network for. And the privacy proof page lists all 11 permissions with the reason each one is there. We'd rather hand you the means to check than ask you to trust a paragraph.
Is my money data sent to your billing server?
No. The billing backend sees a subscription receipt — whether a purchase is valid and when it renews. It never sees a transaction, a budget, a balance or a goal. There's no endpoint that would accept them.
What's the difference between Free and Premium?
Free covers everyday tracking: unlimited transactions, categories and budgets, Safe to Spend, the widget, reminders, manual backup and export, plus one loan and one savings goal. Premium adds unlimited loans and goals, the twelve-month planner, the recommendations engine, full monthly PDF reports, and automatic sync to your own Google Drive on Android or iCloud on iPhone. Both plans come with a 14-day free trial.
Are the recommendations financial advice?
No. CroSum is a tracking and budgeting tool, not a regulated financial adviser. The recommendations are general suggestions derived from the numbers you entered — not personalised financial advice. For decisions that matter, talk to someone qualified.
You're one person. What happens if you stop?
Fair question, and the answer is built into the design. CroSum is one person's business, not a venture-funded startup with a runway. Your data sits in a plain, exportable format on your own device and in your own Drive, and the app works offline with no server to switch off. If CroSum vanished tomorrow, the copy on your phone would keep working and your CSV export would still open in any spreadsheet. For how actively it's actually being worked on, the changelog is the honest record.
Which platforms is it on?
Android is live on Google Play. An iPhone version is on the way. Both share the same on-device architecture.
